Звуковые глаголы – особая тематическая категория, потому что они настолько же многообразны, как и звуки, окружающие нас. Однако стоит заметить, что звуки в английском языке воспринимаются иначе, чем в русском. И, несмотря на то, что мы слышим одинаковые звуки, глаголы, передающие их, очень отличаются в разных языках.
to beep: звук автомобильной сирены или электронного устройства: гудеть, сигналить; бибикать подавать звуковой сигнал; пищать, пикать
The driver beeped when he saw a dog on the road.
When the microwave beeps, it means that food is heated up.
to boo: шум, издаваемый негодующей толпой; звук неодобрения, неодобрительный свист
The crowd booed the player when he missed the goal.
If your jokes are not funny, the audience will boo you.
to buzz: гудеть (о толпе), жужжать, бормотать, говорить невнятно, сквозь зубы
The crowd buzzed so I couldn't hear the speaker.
She buzzed something with disapproval.
to chirp: чирикать, щебетать
The girl chirped something to congratulate me.
When I bump into them, they start chirping some compliments but I don't think it's sincere.
to clang: звук металлических или стеклянных предметов, ударяющихся друг о друга: лязгать, бренчать, звенеть
Don't clang the dishes, you can break them!
The door clanged behind us and we were locked out.
to click: короткий, щелкающий звук; щелкать (печатая на клавиатуре, щелкать мышкой, шариковой ручкой, выключателем, о замке, фотоаппарате, щелкать пальцами)
The student was clicking his pen irritating everybody.
It was quiet in the room, but we could hear somebody clicking a mouse.
to crunch: хрустящий или скрипящий звук: хрустеть под колесами, под ногами; грызть с хрустом, раздавить что-то с хрустом
He stepped on the ice and it crunched.

to howl: выть, завывать, стонать (о ветре)
The wind was howling and I couldn't sleep.
to hum: жужжащий, монотонный звук: гудеть, звенеть (о машине), напевать себе под нос, мычать (о человеке)
When my granny cooks she always humming an old song.
The old fridge was humming very loudly.
to puff: звук выпущенного воздуха, звук издаваемый при выдохе, пыхтение
The lillo puffed and became flat as I pulled out the plug.
The fat man puffed hard as he was trying to lift the sack.
to rattle: трещать, грохотать, греметь (посудой, ключами), дребезжать, сильно стучать
Her bag was full of small things rattling inside.
When the train passes by hour house the dishes rattle in the cupboard.
to screech: визжать или кричать пронзительным голосом, скрипеть, визжать, скрежетать
I should oil the gate, it screeches when we open it.

to tinkle: звенящий звук: звонок телефона, звяканье колокольчика, звук разлетающихся осколков
The vase tinkled as it reached the floor and burst in shivers.
Our teacher used to tinkle the hand bell when she wanted to attract our attention.
to whir: жужжащий звук, издаваемый машинами, аппаратурой
In the factory the machinery was whirling so loudly that the workers wore earplugs.
When we turned on the old projector it started to whirl.
to whoosh: пронестись со свистом, с шумом, промчаться мимо, издавать свистящий звук
